How to Obtain Export Certificate in Nigeria

In Nigeria, many citizens are desirous of exporting one goods or another. They have materials like food stuffs, raw materials etc. As a citizen before you can start exporting anything from Nigeria to another country you must obtain an export certificate.

What is an Export certificate?  It is a document issued by Nigeria Export Promotion Council (NEPC) to anyone who intends to export goods from Nigeria to another country.

The Export certificate is issued electronically once one makes an application. To export from Nigeria, you are required to register with NEPC.

Requirements for obtaining an Export Certificate

To obtain an Export Certificate the following documents are required:

For a Limited liability Company:

1. Certificate of Incorporation (issued by the Corporate Affairs Commission)
2. Copy of Memorandum and Articles of Association
3. Copy of Form CAC 1.1 – “section C” (Particulars of Directors) or Status report (as the case may be). This is formerly known as: Form C07 or Form CAC 7.
4. Board resolution to register company with the NEPC (Company Seal affixed)

For a Co-Operative Society:

1. Certificate of Registration (issued by State Ministry of Commerce, Local Governments and Federal Capital Territory Area Councils)
2. Bye Laws of the Society
3. Board resolution to register company with the NEPC (Company Seal affixed)

For Government and Non-Government Organization;

1. Certificate of Registration (issued by the Corporate Affairs Commission)
2. Constitution of the Government Organization and non-Governmental Organization
3. Memorandum for Guidance of Applicant
4. Board of trustee’s resolution to register company with the NEPC (Company Seal affixed)

Once those documents are in place, the applicant will have to login to NEPC site to start the process. The applicant will fill in the necessary details and make payment. Once the payment is approved the certificate will be issued to the applicant Note; the certificate is generated electronically. The applicant will have to download and print same for his use.

New Export certificate last for 2 years after which the applicant is expected to renew. The subsequent renewal is valid for only 1 year subject to renewal. In other words, NEPC issued certificates are valid for an initial two years (24 months), after which it becomes renewable every year. Note that once your export certificate expires the owner is required to renew the same within 3 months failure of which attracts penalty. At the expiration of the export certificate failure to renew attracts additional fee outside the official fee payable. Note also that if your certificate is lost or mutilated, you will pay the same fee as one renewing.

Once the applicant has made payment and submitted his application, and the payment is confirmed it takes 2 working days to get the certificate. Please note that your certificate could be delayed by non-confirmation of payment, irregular documentation or insufficient information.
